I read that the pornographers are making contingency plans for being
kicked off usenet and internet.  That's great.  I hope they are kicked
off.  It's not that I have anything against pornography, but the
pornographers will then pioneer for the rest of us.  Hopefully, no-one
will subsidize them, and they'll have to figure out a really
economical way of using the ordinary phone system for distribution.
The rest of us will adopt it later.

Think of the discoveries in picture compression they will make.  Clearly
some parts of a picture will require more bits than others in
order to preserve the pornographic effect.  Their discoveries will
be adopted by those who transmit pictures of flowers and cute
animals.  Perhaps they'll even discover an economical way of
transmitting pornographic movies.
